Public evidence for VolunteerUP's optional, reminder-only SMS program. Texting is off by default, and each person chooses whether to receive it.

Who sends these messages

LangShan Consulting LLC d/b/a VolunteerUP operates VolunteerUP volunteer management software. Nonprofit organizations — Habitat for Humanity affiliates, schools, churches, and similar groups — use VolunteerUP to schedule volunteers and track service hours.

When you volunteer with one of those organizations and sign up for a shift through VolunteerUP, you can choose to receive text reminders about that shift. VolunteerUP is the sender of every one of those messages. The organization you volunteer with provides the schedule; it does not send the text itself.

So that you always know who is contacting you and about which schedule, every message begins with VolunteerUP followed by the organization's name:

What messages you will receive

This campaign sends automated SMS shift reminders for shifts a person signed up for. It does not send marketing, promotional, fundraising, broadcast, or donation-solicitation messages, and organizations cannot use it to write their own messages to you.

You pick how far ahead the reminder arrives when you sign up for a shift, and you can skip the reminder for any individual shift without affecting the rest.

How you opt in

Text messages are off by default. You are never enrolled automatically, and consent to receive text messages is not a condition of volunteering or of using VolunteerUP.

You opt in through VolunteerUP's own web forms at app.volunteerup.com: when creating a profile at an organization's registration page, from My Profile › Phone Numbers, or while configuring a text reminder during shift signup. These controls appear only where provider enrollment is enabled. You enter or confirm your mobile number and actively check the box. The box is unchecked until you check it.

Yes, send text notifications from VolunteerUP to this number about this and future shifts for my organization. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. An organization administrator cannot turn texting on for you. The setting is changed only from your own registration, profile, or shift-signup flow, by you. Existing carrier settings are not treated as consent, and changing the phone number requires fresh consent.

Program terms

Message frequency
Message frequency varies. A reminder is sent only for a shift you signed up for and chose a reminder time for, so most volunteers receive about one message per shift.
Cost
Message and data rates may apply. VolunteerUP does not charge volunteers for text messages; your mobile carrier's standard rates apply.
To stop receiving messages
Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. You will receive a confirmation, and no further messages will be sent to that number. You can also uncheck the text message box in My Profile at any time. Opting out of texts does not affect your volunteer account, your shift signups, or email you receive.

Carriers
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed and depends on your carrier and device.
Supported numbers
This program accepts 10-digit +1 North American Numbering Plan format numbers, including the United States, Canada, and other NANP territories where provider or carrier delivery is supported. VolunteerUP validates number format, not country allocation.

How we handle your mobile information

We do not sell mobile information or share it with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile phone numbers and text-message consent records may be processed by contracted messaging providers solely as needed to transmit, support, and service these reminder messages.

Your mobile number and text-message consent are used only to send and service the shift reminders described on this page.
