Why VolunteerUP exists
Non-profits do some of the most important work in our communities. They feed families, build homes, mentor young people, and show up when it matters most. But too often, the tools available to them are either too expensive, too complex, or built with profit — not purpose — in mind.
VolunteerUP exists to change that. We believe the organizations doing the hardest work deserve tools that are simple, affordable, and built with genuine care for what they do.
Our story
VolunteerUP started over 20 years ago, serving Habitat for Humanity affiliates who needed a better way to manage their people — scheduling, check-in, hours tracking, reporting. The basics, done well.
What began as a simple tool for a few affiliates has grown into a platform serving over 30 Habitat organizations across the country. Along the way, the technology has evolved — from legacy systems to a modern, mobile-ready platform — but the mission has stayed the same: help non-profits succeed without adding to their burden.
This isn't a venture-backed startup chasing growth metrics. It's a system built by people who care deeply about service and understand the realities of non-profit work — tight budgets, small teams, big goals.
Real people, real support
For many years, our customer service was led by Debbie Pyles — a real person who personally used VolunteerUP as a Volunteer Services Manager at her local Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Colorado. She understood the work because she lived it.
Debbie retired in 2024 after nearly two decades with VolunteerUP, but her legacy lives on: real people, real support, and a genuine understanding of what non-profit teams need. When you reach out to us, you're not getting a chatbot or an outsourced call center. You're talking to someone who cares about your mission.
That's not a marketing line. It's how we've always worked, and it's how we'll keep working.
